Genie Carris '86 writes the following:
The Boston Latin School Association wants your help! We are looking for
volunteers to help in a variety of ways. We need help with things like
Saturday School, fundraising, looking for lost alums, committee work, etc.
There are many opportunities for you to give back to BLS. If you are
interested in learning more, please contact the Association at 617-423-6658
or at blsa@blsa.org.
You can also check out alumni newsmakers throughout Latin's history.
Some faculty have put up their email addresses in Faculty section.
There's starting to be information on regional alumni groups here:
check out the Class of '51
for information on the Los Angeles group.
Also, Bob Scopa '58 would like to start an
Atlanta group.
If you work for, or are associated with IBM, please check out Steve Corman's entry in the class of '54.

Christopher Lane
(clrl@warwick.net)
lives in the country in northwestern New Jersey with his wife Rita
and two sons, Christopher Jr. and Jason.
He runs his own export brokerage and export management company (CRC
International). They specialize in exporting consumer products, pet
products, computer peripherals and chemicals to Europe and South
America.
Steve Jepsen
(sjepsen@us.oracle.com)
lives on Capitol Hill with his wife Dana. He is a
manager with Oracle Consulting and would like to hear from
old friends.
(4/16/98)
Mark Rush
(mrush@wlu.edu)
lives with his wife, Florinda Ruiz, and their son William in
Lexington, VA
He is an associate professor of politics at
Washington and Lee University.
He teaches American Politics, Constitutional Law and Voting
Rights.
He writes:
Washington and Lee is a great school (the guidance office ought to
take a look at it), but it is situated in the part of the country that
simply cannot deal with the fact that it came in second in the Civil
War. As a result, the place is a shrine to dead confederate
generals (Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson are both buried
here). Folks down here relive Pickett's charge the way Bostonians
relive the 1975 world series. Anyway, it is a beautiful part of the
country (the Shenandoah Valley) and worth a visit. If you are on
I-81, drop by the school and visit--or just drop me an email.
Kevin Dwyer
(kdwyer@skynet.be)
went on to get a B.A. and and M.A. from UMass (Amherst)
in French, and then a Ph.D. in Film Studies at the
University of Warwick (U.K.)
He is a homeowner in Brussels
with his wife (a Belgian) and four-year old son. Kevin's
working as an editor for a small consulting firm in
Brussels and teaches English at the University of Lille
(France).
He writes:
I know it sounds confusing and strange, but it's
all true! If you would like to know more about the whys
and the wherefors, drop me a line.

Robert McCarthy
(103457.1040@compuserve.com)
writes:
I had an impromptu reunion of sorts at the jury session in Chelsea
Court. I am a state trooper, and I was waiting to testify on a case.
I was surprised to see Jack Whelan, '78, serving as clerk
magistrate. I was also surprised to see Jack Moran, '78, also a
state trooper, waiting to testify in another case in the same
courtroom.
Peter Purcell (71224.3210@compuserve.com) wonders where the late '70s and early '80s went?!!
Russ Robinson
graduated from Annapolis Naval Academy in '83 and was a commissioned
officer until '92, when he joined the Naval Reserves.
He buys and sells
real estate now and is also a pharmaceutical rep for Schering. He lives
in the South Bay area of California. He is now married and has 4
children. Happy? You bet! Life is great, and he thanks our savior Jesus
Christ and our father for everything!
(2/21/1999)
Francis Shea, Jr.
(fshea@vlmpusa.com)
is living in Franklin, MA and works for Van Leer, a Dutch company.
He finally got his MBA from BC in 1996. Sorry to miss the reunion
last May. He hopes to see other classmates at fundraising functions.
(9/10/1998)
Ed Sheehy
(EMSDS@msn.com)
is living in Redondo Beach, CA with wife Sandy, son Jack (age 3),
daughter Savannah (2).
He's Director of Sales and Marketing for Nissan Motor
Corp. Remarketing Division. Ed has been with Nissan since 1984, and
lived all over the country. It's his second time in California. He
realized the other day that high school ended 20 years ago! That
would explain the gray hair.
(1/4/98)
Jack Atkinson
(JATKINS1@HFHS.ORG)
graduated from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) in
1981, and then suddenly shocked the world (or those who had an
interest in his whereabouts) by joining the Marine Corps. "The Few and
the Proud" threw caution to the wind and commissioned him a
lieutenant. After leaving the Corps in 1985, Jack spent the next
several years figuring out just what he wanted to do with his life; a
quest which, to one extent or another, continues to this day. The
difference now is that he has a master's degree in health service
administration (Univ. of MI, 1994) and a "real job." When not goofing
off on the Net, Jack is an administrator with the Henry Ford Health
System in Detroit, Michigan (home of the Stanley Cup champs). It's
not a huge money maker, but it keeps him steadily supplied in beer and
pizza. In August 1996, stunner #2 took place when Jack got married
(Caroline; that's her name). Witnesses to this event were Bob Tedesco
(best man), Gene Daniels, and Pete McGill. When not masquerading as a
responsible adult, Jack might be found (periodically) on the rugby
field. His most recent (noteworthy) accomplishment was completing the
1997 Detroit marathon. Jack lives in Ann Arbor, and would welcome
e-mails from anyone except those to whom he owes money.

Cherry Lee Fenton
(kcfenton@concentric.net)

married to Kip since '86 and have 2 dogs. She's active in her
town and enjoys gardening, travel and photography in her spare
time. Please drop a line.
Cherry stays in touch often with Jim Pangakis, Mike Scipione, and Ed
Fitzpatrick. Jim lives in North Andover with his wife Tara

writes:
My wife Alison and I are living in
Toronto. My son Freddie is now 11 and Nick is 8. We have
been here for 3 years and enjoy it. Within the next year we
plan to try to move back to Boston. We have not lived in
Boston since 1983. My job as General Manager for Binney &
Smith Canada (we make Crayola products) does not bring me to
Boston often. I would love to hear from classmates. Please
send an e-mail.

(3/9/98)
Paul J. Phillips
(pphillips@primmer.com)
matriculated to Williams College, entering in the Class of 1981
but not physically graduating until 1990.
In between, he spent 5 desperate years living with twin brother Peter
(also BLS '77) on Marlborough Street in the Back Bay before retreating
(by himself) to the (relative) calm of Somerville for 2 years and the
(relative greater) calm of Watertown for 3 more years. (Peter left
Boston in 1986, moving first to Tucson, AZ for 5 years and then to
Chicago, IL, where he now lives and works as a senior paralegal at an
intellectual property law firm.) Paul worked for a number of years as
a technical writer for various companies, large and small, living and
dead, before leaping with all deliberate haste into law school
(Northeastern Law, '91-'94). This sudden turnaround was due in no
small measure to his wife, Rebecca Noel, whom he met in 1987 and
married in 1993. Becky, a Vermonter by upbringing, beckoned Paul to
Vermont, where he served as judicial law clerk to the Vermont Supreme
Court for 2 years before joining the law firm of Primmer & Piper in
Montpelier (the State Capital) in 1996. Becky, who is finishing her
Ph.D. at Boston University, is a visiting professor at Vermont College
in Montpelier. Paul, Becky and daughter Clarity Rose (b. 7/21/97)
reside in Montpelier and encourage contact by any and all available
means.

Malcom Visser
(mvisser@nvl.army.mil)
graduated from West Point in 1981 and spent the next five years in the
Army, finally leaving the service in 1986 as a captain. He's still
with the Department of Defense as a civilian engineer, working on
equipment to detect and neutralize landmines. Which means he gets to
blow things up without getting arrested, and without devoting his
energies to new and improved ways to kill people.
He married his high school sweetheart from Sharon (the town) in 1984,
and subsequently divorced her in 1987. He first met his real wife,
Sharon (the name), in 1983, but didn't realize who she was and start
dating her until 1989. They married in 1990, and now live outside of
Washington, D.C. in the town of Burke, Virginia, with their two kids
Kyle (5) and Rachel (2).
Malcolm's in touch with a few classmates: Ted Kordis is living in his
parent's old house in Roslindale across from the Arbs with his wife
Paula and three kids - he runs all the computers at one of the
downtown hospitals. Ed O'Neil is a doctor - works in the Emergency
Room at Newton-Wellesley - and says that there's no time for anything
but work in an actual ER. Ed's getting married next year (finally)
and just bought a big old house in Newton. Kevin McDonnell just got
married, lives in NYC, and may be in the publishing business.
Curt F. Bletzer (curt bletz@aol.com) is practicing law in Brighton with his brother Conrad '73. He is living in Medfield, MA with his wife, Kim and their three children, Caleigh, Kevin, and Curt. His brother Christopher graduated in the class of 1996.
Pamela G. Brown (PGMBROWN@aol.com) lives in Newport Beach, CA. She's the Senior Director of Human Resources at a division of PepsiCo, Taco Bell, in Irvine, CA. She's finally considering marriage and having children after a busy career living in NYC, San Francisco, London and Los Angeles.
Alexandre L. Jevgrafovs (JEVGRAFOVS@MSN.COM) is one of the D.C. alumni working for the US government.
Ed Lawrence
(elawrence@polaris1.com)
has worked in the hi-tech training field
for the last fifteen years, and currently teaches
Windows NT and UNIX for Polaris Service in Marlboro, MA.
He is married and lives in Natick, MA.
His hobbies include co-leading hiking and ski trips
for the Appalachian Mountain Club, gardening, and collecting
books.

Mike Norton
(mjn82@erols.com)
is a Software Development Director at Sprint.
He lives with his wife and three children in Northern Virginia.
Mark "Real Deal" Olson
(realdeal@javanet.com)
left the music business in 1988 to begin
a new career with the U. S. Postal Service. In June, 1992, he
was reassigned to Springfield, MA. He is single, the father of
two and resides in West Springfield. Ten pin bowling is his
hobby and he played in the Ebonite Challenge Pro/Am
Tournament at Bradley Bowl, Windsor Locks, CT, to be held in
October. He finished 28th out of
approximately 800 bowlers with a total score of 1455
and beat 2 of the 3 pros he bowled with.
Mark was captain of the AJ's Pro Shop team of Chicopee, MA
that competed at the Brunswick World Team Challenge Bowling
Tournament held at Crest Lanes, Warren, OH, the weekend of
July 18-19. Despite the fact the team finished 40th out of
48, he had a great time and learned what it was really like
to bowl on a pro lane condition -- difficult!!
His DJ days are behind him, but he still has fond
memories of those wild nights at MacDonald's in Jamaica Plain
and more recently at Buck Mulligan's (formerly Charlie's)
in West Roxbury where Ed Holland '67 still holds court every
Friday night. Mark would love to hear from fellow classmates,
friends, fellow bowlers and those alumni from Western MA.

and his soon-to-be 4-year-old son, Eddie.
Ed is in charge of financial aid programs at the
University of New Mexico School of Medicine. He recently
received his master's degree in history from UNM.
He'd be happy to hear from any Boston Latin alumni,
especially those from the Class of '76 or members of the
vaunted BLS chess teams from those years!

Mr. Famulari predicted that I wouldn't last 4 years at Brandeis
University. I received my B.A. in 1979, began a successful recording
career under the performing name "Prince Charles", and have matured
into a producer/engineer of artists Mary J. Blige, Heavy D, Jodeci
and many others. I have a beautiful wife named Catherine. My son,
Romeo, was born in 1989. My years at BLS were both traumatic and
enlightening, and I carry with me always the spirit of achievement
that was nurtured there. Good luck in your future battles, BLS.
Education creates, ignorance destroys, and clarity is the realm of the
enlightened.
I owe much of my success to the discipline enforced in me by
BLS. These
re-issued CD's
were an early attempt of mine to succeed in
the music business. They were the foundation of my current successes
in the music business with artists such as Puff Daddy, Mary J. Blige,
Heavy D and others.

Gregory Bukuras
(rangoon@dreamcom.net)
lives in Norwell, MA, has been married for 11 years and
has two children. After spending the last 18 years in the seafood
industry, he has just started his own company . It is called The
Original Rangoon Company. They manufacture Crab Rangoons and other
appetizers for supermarkets and food service distributors.
Though the six years at Latin School were the longest six years of his
life, Greg looks back and is happy that he made the investment. He would
like to hear from any classmates from the Class of 75 or from other
classes who have an interest in the food business.
(11/10/97)
Roy Clay
(rgclay@acadiacom.net)
is looking to renew some very old acquaintances.
He is an independant computer consultant in New Orleans, LA, with two
daughters who attend the BLS counterpart in N.O., Benjamin Franklin
High School. Will there be a 25th class reunion in 2000?
Blaise Cacciola
(bcacciol@encore.com)
was actually in the Boston area over Easter.
He parked in front of the school for 30 seconds on his way
to Fenway Park.
He writes:
I looked up at the windows and swore I saw Headmaster O'Leary shaking
his fist at me. Wonder what that guy was like over a few Scotches
(shudder). I also wondered if they would sell me a Latin sweatshirt,
but I choked and sped off to see the Red Sox. He who hesitates is
lost. I'm still in South Florida, since 1982. And I ain't coming back.

writes:
I have to admit as the years go by I grow prouder of the
fact that I graduated from Latin. It was not an easy road
for me for many reasons. I still can't speak a lick of
Latin.
And it didn't help that every year I had to listen to the
guidance counselor's "sage" advice that I should go to
another school because there was no way I would graduate.
I'm glad I did not take that advice.
I have gone on to lead a very happy life, both personally
and professionally.
My career has been in the financial arena where along the
way I collected a CPA and CMA certificate and had roles as
controller and CFO. Now I have my own financing company and
loving every minute of it.
I left Boston about 8 years ago to work in Dallas. Spent
4 great years there and took up the game of golf where I
played on average about 100 times a year.
Or another way of looking at it I lost about a thousand
golf balls a year.
I moved to Seattle about 4 years ago
where I met the woman of my dreams. We are married and live
in a beautiful house on top of one of Seattle's many hills.
When I look back at it; going to Latin school proved to be
the foundation I needed to succeed in life. I forget how to
say thank you in Latin so English will have to suffice.
And if any of you alumni come to Seattle please look me up.
