THOUGHTS ADRIFT
2/2/05 | enter blog

I now have a real blog that I plan to maintain semi-regularly. I could just post things here, but it's a bit easier to manage and edit and do other fun stuff with the blogs provided by blogger.com. So I'll continue to post site updates and other big news here, but for day-to-day matters, check out http://abgoldberg.blogspot.com

2/1/05 | fast-loading thumbnails for new photos

I'm now using small thumbnail images for the new photo galleries. As a result, the main gallery pages (i.e., the ones with 12 photos) should load much faster than before, since only a small image needs to load instead of the full image as before. Unfortunately, it'll take me a while to go back and create thumbnails for all the other galleries, but I do intend to do so eventually.

2/1/05 | updated photos and grad school update

I just posted a lot of new photos from the past month or two. Many are from my trip to Oregon with Becky for the winter holidays. I stayed with her family in Parkdale, OR (near Hood River, OR and Mt. Hood, about an hour East of Portland) for almost two weeks. It was great. Other new pictures are from my trip to San Francisco for my cousin Rachel's wedding in the middle of January. In other news, I'm now all done applying to grad school and am now just waiting to hear (hopefully) some good news in the next month or two.

1/14/05 | happy 2005

So I figured I'd update this for the new year, now that I have some free time again . Grad school applications are all done by now, and my winter vacation has passed. I had a lovely time in Oregon with Becky and her family. I'll be posting photos early next week after I get back from this weekend's trip. I'm going to San Francisco for a long weekend for my cousin's wedding. Should be a fun time--lots of site-seeing, partying with relatives, etc. Well I ought to go to bed, but I think I'm going to try to keep this page semi-up-to-date again, with more frequent blog posts (hehe, i guess this is like a home-made blog...) and new picture postings. Maybe I'll get ambitious and add some new site functionality--maybe some dorky stuff involving listing my dvds or gadgets I either have or want. Back in a few days...

11/15/04 | it's been a while...

I haven't updated this page in forever it seems, but I have good reason! I've been busy working and enjoying the summer (and fall) and now busily preparing graduate school applications. Hopefully in a few weeks, we will finish our current book project at work (C++ How to Program, 5/e), and things on that front will calm down a bit.

Oh, and check out the new "work" menu item. There you'll find information about my current job and future career/research interests.

12/5/03 | slideshows!

Now you can view all of the photos in a particular gallery as a slideshow! To get to a slideshow, either go to the photos page and click the slideshow icon () whenever you see it next to the name of a gallery.

11/14/03 | stardom, at last!

So my book, Internet & World Wide Web How to Program (3rd Edition) is finally almost here! It's all done being written, and I'm less than a day away from finishing all of the teacher supplements. It'll hit shelves and online retailers on November 21! Woohoo!

10/20/03 | almost done!

My book is almost done! Only a few more chapters to go, and it'll be out of my hands. Stay tuned for further info on my rise to stardom (in the computer science text book field...).

10/12/03 | introducing buster, the tortoise

I just uploaded two short video clips i took of buster, my 6 year old russian tortoise who just moved in with me here in boston. I snuck a few 30 second clips of him dining this evening. The photos gallery also contains several still shots of him getting situated in his new home.

10/9/03 | lots of recent pictures

It's been a while since I updated this text, but there are lots of new photos, including some pictures of my new apartment and Jamaica Plain (the area of Boston where I live) and a bunch of my turtle, Buster. There are also several galleries of photos from around Boston with various friends, which were taken throughout August.
